Important Update for Great Eastern Policyholders (Hospital Plans)
If you’re a Great Eastern (GE) hospital plan holder and you plan to get treated at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, take note:
What’s Happening?
- GE has suspended pre-authorisation for Mount Elizabeth Hospital.
This means you must pay upfront first and claim later.
No more cashless admission at Mount E for now.
What It Means For You
- If you’re hospitalised at Mount E:
- You’ll need to pay the full bill first, then submit a claim manually.
- Claims will be assessed case-by-case, which may cause delays or partial reimbursement.
What To Do If You Need Hospitalisation
Check if your insurer offers pre-authorisation at the hospital you choose.
Call your insurer or advisor before a planned admission.
Ask for panel doctors or pre-authorisation options to avoid large out-of-pocket payments.
- Example 1: You go to Mount E under GE → Must pay $20,000 upfront → Wait for claim review
- Example 2: You go to Mount E under PRU (with panel doctor & approval) → Minimal upfront cost → Cashless
What to Take Note of Moving Forward
Always ask if the doctor is on your insurer’s panel
Choose hospitals with active pre-authorisation support
Avoid high-cost private hospitals unless necessary
Consider insurers like Prudential for smoother hospitalisation experience and more consistent support
